Classic Inspired Red & Blue Iowa City Wedding

My eyes filled with tears behind my lens as I watched the smile light up her father’s face. He embraced his daughter as they slowly made their way around the dance floor, swaying back and forth. Tonight he held his little girl close because her life with her new husband was about to begin. That moment was just one of many that I almost cried during Matt and Melissa’s classic inspired Iowa City wedding at the Iowa Memorial Union!

Melissa planned the most gorgeous day filled with beautiful florals for E’s Florals and styling by Borrow My Vintage. It all came together perfectly! She envisioned a classic theme that fit beautifully with her lace dress and gold accents everywhere!! Some of my favorite details from the day were Melissa’s grandma’s heirloom locket and her mom’s bracelet (that her dad gave her when Melissa was born!)! Everything during their wedding day went so smoothly (even despite the 20min flash rainstorm!), thanks to Emily at Soiree!

I love getting to know all my couples. To me, they’re more like new friends than anything. A year ago, when Matt and Melissa were just starting their wedding planning, we met for coffee on one of their visits back from Arizona. Melissa was finishing up her doctorate and they weren’t sure where life would take them once she graduated. Since meeting them, they’ve moved halfway across the country AND both changed jobs! All accomplished on top of planning a wedding! Now they’re officially Mr. & Dr. Rier!!

It was so hard to say goodbye at the end of the night. I didn’t want it to end! Knowing these two would be heading back home after their honeymoon made me the best kind of happy-sad. It was so hard to part, but I’m so excited for the adventure they have ahead in marriage!

Matt and Melissa, you guys are seriously the kindest people ever! I enjoyed every second with you! Definitely let me know whenever you’re in Iowa again!! I wish you all the best!!
