What an honor to be asked to photograph Abby and Josh’s marriage proposal at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. I’ve photographed the weddings of Abby’s older sisters, Anna and Allison. Photographing this family is always a special treat for me! Being asked to photograph siblings of past brides and grooms is the biggest compliment as a wedding photographer.

But really, the proposal. Josh came up with the sweetest plan. He took Abby on a walk at Iowa State University and slowly made their way to Memorial Lutheran Church, where they often go sit together. Little did Abby know, all of their family (and me!) were hidden at the church, waiting for the moment!

Josh and Abby sat down, then he pulled out his guitar and played/sang her a song he wrote just for her. At the end of the song it was clear he was proposing. They stood, embraced, then Josh sank down to one knee and asked Abby to be his wife. Moments later, their family erupted into the sanctuary and engulfed them in hugs and congratulations.

I left their proposal with the biggest smile on my face. How could I not with so much joy in the air?! It’s moments like this that completely ground me and remind me I’m doing the very thing that I was made to do!
