Suddenly they swung. Her ballgown shifted and together they swayed. With a jump and a twist they crossed the dance floor back and forth. As the song went on “you’re my best friend.” Everyone knew, the lyrics were so true. What a joy it was to capture Aric and Kayla’s gorgeous peach and teal Iowa City wedding at the Coralville Marriott following their heart-felt ceremony at Parkview Church.
I feel like I have a special bond with these two after traveling to Chicago for their engagement session. I mean, they let me inside their home. Aric and Kayla gave Joey and me a grand tour (well as much as you can fit into one sessions-worth!) of their new city. It was so much fun to get to know them that way and see why they love where they live! They even walked me through my first experience with Uber. Not something I do in Iowa every day, that’s for sure!
Ever since our trip to Chicago, I’ve been looking forward to this day. These two are so fun and their personalities are the best compliment of each other. And I have to say, everything about their day matched them so perfectly. Out of my many favorite things, the first that pops into my head are the colors! Oh, the colors, the colors! Kayla picked the most gorgeous peacock-inspired blue, teal and peach color palette. It’s not one I see very often and it was so refreshing! As a lover of colors that stand out against neutrals, I’m in love!
I could go on and on about the things I loved from their day. Their ceremony was heartfelt. They read their own vows (we did at our wedding, so always a favorite of mine!). And they did a letter box. I’ve never seen this done before, but I seriously hope the trend picks up! Each grandparent wrote Aric and Kayla a letter. Every five years on their anniversary, they will open the box and read one letter. When they reach their 25th, they’ll reread their own vows they wrote to each other on their wedding day. Heart melted. I’m so in love with this idea! How precious the anticipation those letters will make each anniversary!
At the end of the day, they wowed their guests. Their first dance was the most fun dance I’ve ever seen! It was beautiful, serious and fun — all in one dance! Be sure to keep on scrolling to see a few snapshots! Trying to take it all in from behind the lens just didn’t do it justice! I could watch them again, and again, and again. What a true delight for their friends and family!
Aric and Kayla, to me, you’re more than clients. In the short time I’ve known you, you’ve treated me like a friend. You welcomed Joey and me into Chicago with open arms and showed us a taste of your city. It was incredible. Your day was beautiful, but I know your marriage will be even more so!
