Wedding at Country Cathedral in State Center, Iowa

From the day Josh proposed to Abby at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa, I knew their wedding day would be special. I’ve had the joy of photographing three weddings for this family, and each time, I’ve gotten to know them better.

Abby and Josh share a love for old Lutheran churches, so it was no surprise that they chose the Country Cathedral for their wedding ceremony. The day of their wedding was incredibly windy, which made outdoor activities a bit challenging. However, Abby and Josh remained focused on the true purpose of the day: their commitment to each other and their faith.

Their ceremony was truly the highlight of the day. It was filled with worship and praise, as Abby and Josh expressed their intention to build their marriage on their shared faith in Christ. One of the most memorable moments was when they both sank to their knees, arms raised in praise, in a powerful expression of their love and devotion.

After the ceremony, we all traveled to Nevada, Iowa, for the reception. The evening was marked by heartfelt prayers and speeches from family, friends, and mentors, all of whom shared in Abby and Josh’s joy.

Abby, in particular, was excited to change from her elegant wedding dress into comfortable sweats so she could dance freely after dinner. Her energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and soon everyone was on the dance floor, celebrating the newlyweds.

I approach weddings in a documentary style, aiming to capture the day as it unfolds naturally. This approach allowed me to capture the essence of Abby and Josh’s day in a way that felt authentic, capturing the beauty and emotion of the day without intruding.

I am in awe of Abby and Josh’s love and commitment to each other. Their wedding day was not just a celebration of their union, but a testament to their faith and devotion. I am refreshed and inspired, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share a glimpse of this beautiful day with you.
